Activated charcoal is used in closed terrariums to help create a bacterial barrier and keep the environment in good condition. It is not essential in an open terrarium because there is sufficient air circulation.

Standard activated carbon charcoal is supplied in pots of 100g which is suitable for small to medium terrariums.
