The amazingly lush Giant Taro plant - a definate for anyone that wants to live in a jungle in the UK.;;In tropical conditions they can grow to true giants, standing; up to 4-5m high with stems up to 2m long with humungus leaves!

Elephant ear taro is an aroid with a spectacular cluster of upwardly pointing, arrow-shaped leaf blades. The swollen underground stems are used for food and animal fodder, and the roots and leaves are used medicinally in some countries but must go stringent prepartion to remove the poisonous calcium oxalate crystals.

The giant taro needs a temperature between 10-30 celsius and humid conditions - at least 60%. It also likes moist soil but not waterlogged. It will do best in a semi shady position if growing outside - which is possible in the UK providing you bring the tuber in during the winter.
