Anthurium are evergreen perennials, usually epiphytic and sometimes climbing. The flowers that are produced are not really flowers at all, but modified leaves, and come in an amazing range of colours. ‘Black Love’ is a stunning variety, with almost black, shiny ‘flowers’ and dark green glossy leaves.

Unlike most flowering plants, the ‘flowers’ on these Anthuriums will appear all year, and this is because they are not a true flower.

This particular species of anthurium is native to Colombia through to Ecuador. It is an epiphytic subshrub and grows primarily in wet tropical environments. It is used as a poison and a medicine and has environmental uses.
