Verbena bonariensis is a much-loved, versatile garden plant. Bearing beautiful deep-purple flowers on elegant but sturdy stems, it's slug and snail-proof, pollinator-friendly, resistant to drought and is easy to propagate from seed or cuttings, although left alone they will self seed.

 

Their tall height and delicate stature make them perfect for prairie schemes, planted amongst tall ornamental grasses. Flowering in late summer, verbena are a plant to keep your garden in colour through to autumn and beyond in warmer weather, providing valuable nectar for pollinators before they go into hibernation.

 

Grow in moist well drained soil, in full sun in the middle or back of a border or interplanted through grasses. Awarded the RHS AGM, this is a true stalwart of many a British gardenplants. Purple plants look beautiful with yellow!
